【SSIP2016】Silivanh Souksomvang

I decided to participate in SSIP2016 because I want to explore and learn more about Japan, which I thought that this program would be the best answer for me. By spending three weeks in this program, I didn’t just learn about Japanese cultures but what I got more than that was the friendships among all of the participants, the Japanese students and the staffs. In the first few days, there were some difficulties for me to get use to Tokyo but from the help of the interns and the staffs, everything was much easier. Also, the SWU students were very friendly too. Even though some of them might not be fluent in English but that wasn’t our problem at all and we got along quite well. That’s why we were so close to each other and most of us still keep in touch until now. What made this program different from other programs was that it wasn’t about only giving lectures and workshops but it allowed all of the participants to experience the real things. For example, we learn how to make our own Matcha Tea, we learn how to do Japanese calligraphy, and we watched the real Kabuki performance and so much more. Moreover, after the classes and in our free days, my friends and I went out to explore Tokyo. We went to many places mostly famous shopping places such as Shibuya, Harajuku, Shinjuku, Ginza and Akihabara. Even though these places are famous of shopping but they all have their own uniqueness and I can’t decide which place I like the most. However, one of my favorite places was Harajuku because it is a shopping street for teenagers and it was very fascinated to see Japanese teenagers dressed up in so many different styles.

 

Applying for the SSIP2016 was the best decisions that I have ever made. It was one of my best lifetime experiences and I want you to explore the same thing as I did. You might still concern about how you are going to survive three weeks in Japan right? Well, you don’t have to worry about that at all because there are supports from the interns and the staffs. They will provide you all the help that you need and you know what, they are very friendly. Therefore, I truly would love to recommend this program for you girls out there to step out of your comfort zone and join us in the SSIP and I promise that you won’t regret it.
